Programming & Outreach Coordinator

Our mission

To foster creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in children 12 and under, through hands-on exhibits, programming and outreach. 

Job purpose

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Programming & Outreach Coordinator is a key member of the Operations team and leader of the Program Facilitators and Party Hosts, ensuring that the Museum’s in-house and outreach programs meet the goals laid out by the Operations Manager. This position is responsible for ensuring effective partnerships with community organizations that work with the Museum on programming; designing, facilitating and evaluating programs; and ensuring that all participants in the Museum’s programming have a positive experience.

Duties and responsibilities

Reports to: Operations Manager

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with Operations Manager to develop strategic vision and objectives for programming
    1. Use feedback, data, trends and curriculum to determine programming needs.
    2. Research, design and coordinate logistics for inhouse and outreach programming to meet objectives and achieve goals.
    3. Oversee and coordinate materials needed for programs in inhouse, outreach and exhibits.
    4. Work with Communications and Marketing Coordinator to promote programs and initiatives.
  2. Coordinate Program staff and Volunteers
    • Coordinate and supervise CDM’s team of Program Facilitators and Party Hosts.
    • Submit staffing schedules to Operations Manager for approval.
    • Assist in training, orientation and performance evaluations for all Programming team members.
    • Support Programming team members in finding innovative and exciting ways to help children engage in the world around them.
    • Assist in training and orientation for all volunteers participating in delivering programming.
    • Work with Volunteer Coordinator to determine volunteer needs for in house and outreach programming.
  3. Assist in the preparation of and adherence to funding opportunities
    • Provide program/project descriptions and preliminary budget to Fund Development Manager and Operations Manager for funding applications and requests.
    • Maintain collection of program data to be used for follow up reporting.
  4. Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations and stakeholders
    • Initiate connections and continue to engage with, but not limit to, local artists, scientists, educators and organizations for programming and resource development.
    • In building relationships, work with Fund Development Manager to cultivate potential funding partnerships and opportunities.
  5. Other duties as required

Qualifications

The individual will have knowledge of nonprofit practices and experience in program design and coordination. They will have further experience in building partnerships and encouraging participation. The individual holds a Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience and knowledge of child development and education practices. Working conditions

  • This position is full-time (40 hours per week).
  • This position will be located at the CDM museum site in Saskatoon.
  • This position’s wage is hourly - $20-$22 (Benefit coverage after three month probationary period).
  • This position requires working with the following equipment: POS system, computer, debit machine, vehicle (Class 5 driver’s license).
  • Some travel within Saskatoon is required to attend meetings, community events, and learning opportunities. Occasional overnight travel may be required depending on current activities.
  • The operating environment is such that staff may be required to work extra hours to meet the needs of the organization. While staff need to be flexible in their work schedules, the CDM is committed to providing appropriate time-in-lieu and/or compensation.
  • We work with children to promote a sense of discovery, creativity and exploration both indoors and outside. This sometimes involves facilitating fun in hot, cold, light, dark, dray, damp, quiet and loud environments. This position also typically involves walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, driving and carrying items over distance.
